BREXIT BLOCKER BERCOW STAYS PUT

News that John Bercow will stay on as Speaker will not come as much of a shock to anyone.  When he took on the role in 2009 he pledged to stand down by 2018 at the latest, but then came the EU referendum.  Regularly accused of Remain bias, by his own admission today he said that he wouldn't leave the post while "momentous events are taking place".  In other words he wants to stay on so that he can continue to frustrate Brexit for as long as possible.

"I do feel that now is a time in which momentous events are taking place and there are great issues to be resolved and in those circumstances, it doesn't seem to me sensible to vacate the chair".
John Bercow

If there was any doubt about his Remain bias, he gave a speech yesterday in Washington DC where he implied that he would help facilitate the blocking of a no deal Brexit.

Needless to say, some Remainers could not hide their delight to hear that the Brexit-blocking facilitator-in-chief was staying put...
