COUNCIL BY-ELECTIONS 12.09.19

There were five contests last night, four of which took place in the Midlands and one in Hampshire.  The Labour vote dropped in all three wards that Labour had previously contested.  The Lib Dem vote was up in a couple of wards and led to them taking a seat from the Tories in Northamptonshire.  The Tory vote was either slightly up or slightly down, except in Wellingborough where the vote share dropped by ten per cent.  In Rutland three candidates were fighting for a seat previously occupied by an independent who had been elected unopposed.
