COUNCIL BY-ELECTIONS 19.09.19

There were six by-elections last night, three defended by Labour and three by the Conservatives.  Labour held all three, despite seeing their share of the vote drop.  The Labour vote was down in all five seats it contested, ranging from 5.9% to 17%.  The Tories lost one of their seats to the Lib Dems who surged to victory in Somerset, in fact the Lib Dem vote shot up significantly all round.  The Tory vote was mostly down, but marginally compared to Labour.
