COUNCIL BY-ELECTIONS 10.10.19

There were three by-elections last night, all for borough councils in England.  It was a bad night in Hampshire for the Conservatives as they lost control of Basingstoke and Deane Council.  Labour, the Lib Dems and Greens all stood down from the crucial by-election and this handed victory to one of two independent candidates.  Meanwhile, in the other two contests Labour's poor vote share continued.  They held in Corby, but it is now more than two months and 24 council by-elections since the party recorded an increase in vote share.  No wonder they're scared of a general election!
