The trial of a Labour councillor that was due to begin this week has been pushed back by almost seven months. Cllr Ricky Jones was filmed during last summer's riots making a cut throat gesture as he told a left-wing rally: "They are disgusting Nazi fascists and we need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all". Jones was later arrested and charged with encouraging violent disorder. He spent several weeks in custody before being released on bail.
Cllr Jones denies the charges and had been due to stand trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London on Monday. However, the trial has been delayed until August 11 following an application to which the judge agreed. The reason for the application has not been made public.
Jones represents the Princes ward on Dartford Borough Council in Kent, but remains suspended from Labour pending trial - if it ever takes place...
This is deliberately being delayed in the hope the the public's attention will be reduced. What he said and did was absolutely shocking. The fact that he was a Councilor makes it even worse. Nothing less than a lengthy prison sentence should be acceptable.
ReplyDeleteIn contrast, our Sir Tommy has been fast-track imprisoned for trivial and harmless technicality.
