COUNCIL BY-ELECTIONS 13.02.25

Six by-elections were held on Thursday and it was a mixed bag of results with four of the six changing hands.  Labour's vote share was down in all five English seats, including a routine hold for them in north London, whilst in Scotland their vote was up slightly in a complicated contest.  Technically it was a gain from the Lib Dems, but the Lib Dem incumbent had been elected having finished third, as three seats were up for grabs on that occasion.

Labour lost two seats elsewhere, one to Reform in the red stronghold of south Wales and one to the Greens in leafy Warwick.  Reform pushed Labour into third in the latter as they continue to clock up some impressive new entries.  Their results are certainly beginning to measure up to recent polls that show them leading Labour nationally.
