A few weeks ago a leftist troll commented on a Facebook post of ours that featured some football fans unfurling a message for Chairman Starmer: 'Stop the boats'. Anthony Thomas from South Wales wrote: "Umm he has. Don't people actually do their reasearch".
Well, Anthony, neither ourselves or the footy fans needed to do much 'reasearch' into the matter. There had been zero crossings for several days at that point in time for a number of reasons, but Chairman Starmer having prevented them from coming was certainly not one of them. Our response to Anthony at the time was thus: "You think Starmer has stopped the boats because there haven't been any crossings for a few days during the height of winter (and two storms)? In the third week of this month there were 14 small boat crossings alone."
In the weeks that followed there were intermittent crossings, but now spring is arriving and normal service, as we alluded to, is resuming...
That's 1,005 migrants in 18 vessels spread across seven days, which included three days of zero arrivals. So you see Anthony, Starmer has not 'stopped the boats'.
One of the topics on The Jeremy Vine show the other day was the imposition of a tourist tax in Scotland and Wales. This would see visitors to places like Edinburgh being charged for simply visiting the city. The lefty on the show was in favour of the idea, arguing that the large influx of visitors places a strain on local services. You couldn’t make it up. normally the left are in favour of large scale immigration, the more the merrier as the editor of The Guardian once said. Thousands even hundreds of thousands over the years is to be welcomed. arguments that it places a strain on housing, health. education and crime are dismissed. However. tourists, who are putting money into the local economy are not welcomed with open arms. refugees welcome. tourists go home.
